Video Transcription: The Top 7 Questions People Ask About TENS

Kathe:

Hi everyone. Welcome back to Dr. Ho's Healthy Living Blog. Now, you've been sending your questions in. You wanna know, what is TENS, what is EMS? I brought the big guns today. This is Vincent Ho. He is the president at Dr. Ho's. So Vince, what is the difference between TENS, between EMS?

Vincent Ho:

That's a good question. We get that one a lot. So first off, TENS and EMS are both technologies that are extremely effective in helping you relieve your pain without any drugs. Now, TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. What that means is that it stimulates your nerve to retrain the muscles to relax to relieve your pain. EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation. And what that means is it stimulates your muscle, to exercise your muscle to improve circulation to relieve your pain. So both are extremely effective in relieving pain, but they work in two different ways.

Kathe:

Okay now, normally, my understanding is that there are TENS machines and there are EMS machines. So what is Dr. Ho's?

Vincent Ho:

That's a great point because that is what it is. Usually, you'd have to choose to use a TENS unit or an EMS unit. But what we've been able to do is, through our technology, is actually combine the two technologies into one unit. So now, you don't have to make the choice. You can actually get the benefits of TENS and EMS into one unit.

Vincent Ho:

Not only that, we now have incorporated our own proprietary technology called AMP technology. What AMP stands for is auto-modulated pain relieving waves. And what that means is that the waves constantly change so that your body can't get used to the stimulation. If your body can't get used to it, you can get long-term benefit. So now, you get stimulating of the nerve, stimulating of the muscle to improve the circulation, and with the auto-modulated pain relieving waves, you can get clinically proven pain relief.

Kathe:

Okay, so you've got TENS, EMS, and AMP. Three technologies in one unit.

Vincent Ho:

Yes.

Kathe:

Is there something special we need to do with the unit? Is it difficult to use?

Vincent Ho:

No. In fact, that's the best thing about this unit, is that it was our goal to make a unit that was safe, effective, and affordable. We all would love to be able to go to the clinics every single day when we have a pain, we just don't have the time or the money. So it was our goal to be able to make a unit that was a professional grade that you can use at home. That means it has to be easy to use. So all you have to do when you use it is you just place the pads where you have the pain. It's that simple. You put the pads on your shoulder pain, put it on your shoulder. If you have back pain, put it on your back. The one key recommendation is, always put the pads on the same muscle group when you treat it.

Kathe:

Okay, so the two pads need to go on the one muscle?

Vincent Ho:

Exactly.

Kathe:

Okay. So, because it's all this technology and we can use it a lot, is there a time limit we need to worry about when using it?

Vincent Ho:

Well, we're very proud that we have a clinical study and it's very important for us to scientifically prove that this unit will help you with your pain. With our clinical study ... Our clinical study was done for 20-minute use.

Kathe:

Okay.

Vincent Ho:

Now, what I always recommend, especially if you've been suffering from chronic back pain, sciatica, arthritic pain, the more you use it, the better your results you're gonna have. Use it for an hour, two hours, three hours, you cannot overuse it. This is not like a drug where you can over take it. In fact, the more you use it, the better. That's what we always want to stress.

Kathe:

You mentioned that it's not like drugs. Does that mean there are not any side effects?

Vincent Ho:

Well, think about it. When you look at your pain drugs, there are so many warnings and you can't overtake it. With our unit, there are no side effects. You can use it ... The more you use it, the better results you have. It is drug-free pain relief. Now, there are two scenarios where we do recommend not to use it. If you have a pacemaker, you should not use it. If you're pregnant, you shouldn't use it. However, when you're in labour, you should absolutely use it because it will help you tremendously for your labour pains.

Kathe:

That seems very exciting to probably a lot of people out there. Now, it seems there's a lot of benefits using this kind of three in one technology.

Vincent Ho:

Yes.

Kathe:

Now, because it's three different technologies, is it covered by insurance?

Vincent Ho:

Well, because the unit has had clinical studies on it and because it is so effective, the insurance companies now are covering the unit. So what you wanna do is you get prescription from your doctor and you combine it with your receipt and most insurance companies will cover it. Now, if you have any questions with regards to insurance coverage, give us a call. We're more than happy to help guide you through that process.

Kathe:

Okay, well, thank you so much for educating me and everyone out there on the difference between TENS and EMS and how the Dr. Ho's units actually combine the technology together. We hope that helps you on your pain relief journey and until then, we'll see you next time, guys. Bye.

Vincent Ho:

Bye-bye.
