After getting to the root of their physical condition by speaking with a primary care physician, many individuals are disheartened to learn that the main recommended treatment avenue involves taking powerful prescription pain medications. While these drugs can help some patients, they also increase the risk of negative side effects and becoming addicted to prescription painkillers.

These concerns led Dr. Michael Ho to develop an incredible new way of relieving muscle and joint discomfort connected to chronic pain without relying on risky drugs or surgeries. Dr. Ho's Pain Therapy System is a device that can deliver proven results safely and effectively for those in need.

Providing massaging therapy in the form of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or T.E.N.S., this amazing device can help patients get on with their lives while reducing chronic pain. Here's how.

Dr. Ho's Pain Therapy System

The T.E.N.S. Pain Therapy System from Dr. Ho is both a technologically advanced and incredibly simple product to use for treating aches and pains throughout the body.

Comprised of a pocket-sized control device and several adhesive Gel Pads that can be attached safely to the skin, this alternative treatment is specifically designed to target muscle pain, tension and muscle spasms, along with boosting blood circulation and oxygenation in the body. The Pain Therapy System can help improve symptoms associated with the following illnesses and injuries:

  1. Sources of pain from Fibromyalgia
  2. Suffering from Migraines
  3. Pain from circulatory issues
  4. Issues from Tenosynovitis

In order to use the device, individuals can simply place the Gel Pads on the sore or injured area. The power source will then deliver controlled electrical charges to the affected muscles and joints to stimulate the nerves, relaxing the muscles and allowing the pain and tension to melt away. The Dr. Ho T.E.N.S. Pain Therapy System is also quick to use, as attaching the electrode pads for a period of just 20 minutes once a day can be enough to treat and relieve chronic pain. The extra large Flextone Pads are also available to treat large muscle groups, should as the shoulders, lower back, hips and knees.

Clinical praise for Dr. Ho's T.E.N.S. therapy

Not only is the Dr. Ho Pain Therapy System a popular product for treating chronic pain throughout the body, it has also been clinically proven to work. A June 2002 study conducted by Stuart McGill, Ph.D., professor of spine biomechanics at the University of Waterloo in Canada, investigated the benefits and strengths of using T.E.N.S. therapy from Dr. Michael Ho as opposed to other treatment options.

In order to determine the effectiveness of the Pain Therapy System in reducing chronic pain - a subjective area that can vary according to different pain scales - McGill looked for objectively measurable qualities of the four pad dual muscle therapy system.

While traditional T.E.N.S. therapy products deliver pulses of electrical stimulation to the muscles and nerves, the Dr. Ho Pain Therapy System takes this technology one step further. Instead of simply delivering high frequency stimulation with biphasic pulses, the Dr. Ho product incorporates a sequence of pulses differing in duration and intensity.

For example, individuals using a standard T.E.N.S. product can increase the strength of the electrical nerve stimulation as they desire. However, the Pain Therapy System automatically varies the pulse pattern, a therapeutic approach that has proven effective for massaging and relaxing tense and injured muscles. This modulated burst pattern begins slowly before increasing in charge, then gradually decreases in power. These waves of electrical stimulation shift over time, effectively creating a sensation of being massaged in different ways by a trained masseuse.

McGill used electromyography and Near Infrared Spectroscopy to measure the Dr. Ho T.E.N.S. Pain Therapy System's ability to treat muscle pain. These avenues of investigation allowed McGill to objectively find that using the product can reduce spasms in the muscles while increasing muscle oxygenation. The high intensity electrical signals generated by the device can reach and activate skeletal muscle fibers, compared to low intensity T.E.N.S. products, which are generally only powerful enough to impact cutaneous sensory nerve fibers.

"In summary, the major difference in the [Dr. Ho] 4 Pad T.E.N.S. signal and a typical modulated T.E.N.S. pattern is in the way the program builds a stimulation treatment where the greatest intensity is contained in the middle of the program. Thus, one more layer of program sophistication is built-in … Our work shows that the sophisticated modulated patterns of the high intensity [Dr. Ho] 4 Pad T.E.N.S. stimulation device reduces muscle spasm and increases oxygenation, suggesting that the pain-spasm cycle is reduced," concluded McGill in his study, "Description and comparison of traditional TENS to DR-HO'S TENS (High Intensity, Modulated TENS)."

Can this device be used on quadriplegic patients with a pacemaker? My son is my patient and we are trying to find other equipment that will help exercise his back, hips & leg muscles. He is going to therapy for his upper body (occupational therapy). They are working on his arms and shoulders. They won't use anything that they say may affect his pacemaker. So this is what I won't to find out from you about this product.

      Hi Marian,
Thanks for your message. We don't usually recommend the use of the Pain Therapy System for patients who have a PaceMaker. However, it is always best to defer to your son's doctor for their recommendation. The Pain Therapy System is a T.E.N.S device, so please check with your son's doctor whether they may recommend the use of a T.E.N.S device for your son's condition. Thank you!
